Ayurvedic therapy
Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that originated in India over 5000 years ago. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Ayurvedic treatments aim to restore this balance through natural remedies and therapies.
Here are some of the most common Ayurvedic treatments:
Abhyanga: This is a full-body massage using warm herbal oils. It is believed to calm the nervous system, improve blood circulation, and promote the removal of toxins from the body.
Shirodhara: This involves pouring warm herbal oil or other liquids onto the forehead in a steady stream. It is believed
to calm the mind, relieve stress, and improve mental clarity.
Jaanu Basti is a type of Ayurvedic treatment that involves the application of medicated oil or herbal decoction to the knee joint. The word “Jaanu” means knee and “Basti” means container or retaining something inside. This therapy is done by creating a container or dam around the knee joint with the help of dough made from black gram flour, which is then filled
with warm, medicated oil or herbal decoction.
Kati Basti is a specific Ayurvedic treatment that involves applying warm medicated oil
to the lower back region using a specially made dough ring. The term “Kati” refers to the lower back area, and “Basti” means
container or retaining. Kati Basti is an effective treatment for various lower back problems such as lower back pain, stiffness, sciatica, and herniated disc. During the treatment, the patient is asked to lie face down on a table or a mat, and a ring of dough made from black gram flour or whole wheat flour is placed on the lower back region. Warm medicated oil is then poured inside the ring and allowed to remain there for a specific period, usually around 20-30 minutes.
The medicated oil used in Kati Basti contains herbs that help to reduce
inflammation, alleviate pain, and improve blood circulation in the affected area. The
heat generated by the oil helps to relax the muscles and tissues in the lower back region, which can help to improve flexibility
and reduce stiffness.
